How to Know When a Cherimoya Is Ripe

If you've never eaten a cherimoya before, you may wonder how to tell when it's ready to eat.

A freshly harvested cherimoya may be firm when you receive it. Leave it at room temperature and allow it to ripen naturally.

How to tell when it's ripe

Gently press the fruit with your fingers. If it's very hard, it needs more time. When it gives slightly to gentle pressure—similar to a ripe avocado—it's usually ready to enjoy.

The skin may darken somewhat as the fruit ripens. This is normal and doesn't necessarily mean the fruit has gone bad.

How to eat cherimoya

Wash the fruit, cut it in half, and scoop out the creamy white flesh with a spoon. Do not eat the black seeds or skin.

Once ripe, you can refrigerate your cherimoya to slow further ripening.

At Fresh Farm Fruit, we'll continue sharing simple guides to help you ripen, store, and enjoy fresh fruit at its best.
